Milliefox Cakes officially opened in December 2019 creating bespoke Wedding & Celebration cakes, along with treats for parties.
Jo has baked for over 30 years starting with her mum & gran, then moving into hospitality running bars, restaurants and hotels for over 20 years. Jo’s love for creating fun celebration cakes started out just for friends & family, but then developed into a passion finding sugar paste modelling a great way to relax. Having worked in hospitality & commercial kitchens most of her life, in 2018 she started developing her skills in sugar paste & chocolate to start her new career creating Milliefox Cakes. With the support of her husband and little boy she moved into a small studio at Nether Poppleton in October 2019 and started growing the business, incorporating parties, chocolate work and treats. Christmas 2019 was amazing selling over 1000 Hot Chocolate Bombs and other Christmas treats. Jo was looking forward to growing the business in 2020 and already had a lot of bookings for parties, weddings and birthdays. 

Having been so excited for the future the closure of the country and hospitality was a real blow but thinking on her feet Jo decided that the Vision for the company would just have to change and adapt with Covid 19 restrictions and a new plan was born. With the amazing support of family & customers Milliefox Cakes started to create smaller bakes and grew a delivery service, so that throughout lockdown Milliefox Cakes were delivering cakes, bakes, afternoon tea and ingredients to customers across York and through the post. 

The response was amazing and not only did Jo’s little business survive, it grew so that Milliefox Cakes could employ its first team member, Dawn and now Milliefox Cakes are growing even more…

Having survived and flourished through the pandemic Jo had to decide whether to go back to just creating speciality cakes for weddings and party’s or whether to continue to developing the Milliefox Cakes brand and services that had been established during lockdown…. 

So………… The decision was made to grow and develop Milliefox Cakes and add services. This was a massive decision as it involved moving, taking on more staff and growing the customer base even more!

The hunt had started for a new premises in May 2021 and in September 2021 Milliefox Cakes finally signed for their new home in Huntington and started to create the new space.   

In October 2021 The Cafe at Milliefox Cakes opened offering quality homemade food, delicious cakes, afternoon tea and our own fantastic coffee blend created by Cloudgate. With the 2 new kitchens the original bespoke cake services could be developed as Milliefox Cakes alongside so many new services such as hosting parties, offering classes to learn cake art, outside catering plus developing the postal and delivery services.

The Cafe at Milliefox Cakes & The Cafe at Milliefox Cakes also employed a great new team adding 6 staff to the businesses with the intention to grow…. 

The response to the opening was overwhelmingly positive from the local community in Huntington and surrounding areas with people even walking from Strensall! As a small family run business Jo is looking forward to being involved with the community and making The Cafe at Milliefox Cakes a local hub for the area.
